A new collection can make an older bag feel interesting again. It can also make shopping feel urgent. Before paying extra for a preloved Monogram bag, take a breath and work out what is actually being offered.

The news, without the resale hype

Louis Vuitton’s parent company announced a year of Monogram celebrations in January 2026, marking 130 years since the pattern’s creation in 1896. The announcement highlights familiar names including Speedy, Keepall, Noé, Alma and Neverfull. That is a brand milestone, not evidence that every older Monogram bag has risen in resale value.

Identify the exact bag

Write down the model, size, material and included accessories. Ask the seller whether the item is an older standard model, an earlier collaboration or a piece from an anniversary collection. A familiar pattern does not make these interchangeable. Request photographs of the actual item rather than campaign pictures.

Compare before paying

Look at comparable sold bags, not just the highest asking prices. Check corners, handles, lining and any alterations. Decide the maximum total cost before contacting the seller, including delivery and any inspection or repair costs.

Give the decision a night

If the main reason to buy is fear of missing out, save the listing and return to it tomorrow. A bag that suits daily life is a stronger purchase than one bought only because a headline made it feel scarce.
